Three Generations of Keeping Plants Moving

MHS started in 1940 as Mansfield Hardware and Supply — a name plenty of locals still remember. About fifteen years ago the name became MHS Industrial Supply, to say plainly what the company had long been: a distributor focused on industry, not a hardware store.

Today the third generation of the Downs family — President Jeff Downs, with Brad and Ashley — runs the company from 70 Sawyer Parkway, out by the airport in Mansfield’s industrial park. The formula hasn’t changed since 1940: know your customers, stock what they need, and show up when it matters.

That’s how a small, service-oriented distributor earns a Small Business of the Year award — and how it keeps the region’s manufacturers moving forward, one delivery at a time.
